Logo

Since the logo doesn't show up on the mobile platform I thought we would share it here. We'll see if we can fix this so the logo shows in all platforms. It's such a nice logo!

We're "Live"

We are now officially "live."  Our logo is set and we're moving on to next steps.

Also, we now have an email account so you can reach us with questions or comments about the project.  Our address is: mnpenandpress@gmail.com

Look for more posts here in the near future.  We'll also be working to make ourselves known on other social media sites using the hashtag #mnpenandpress

If you're part of a library--any kind of library--in Minnesota, please consider being a part of this project.  If you're not in a position to make that kind of decision, please refer us to those who can.

We're hoping to involve public, school, special, academic, and other libraries and archives from around the state in showing off our "best stuff" and raising awareness of the rich book and manuscript collections in Minnesota. We'd love to get county historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage institutions involved as well. And, if you know any book or manuscript collectors, please let them know about our project.  We'd like to get them all involved!

Our first big public "splash" will be at the Minnesota Library Association annual conference in October.  In the meantime, we'll be working on a toolkit that will give you all the basics, the nuts and bolts, for getting involved in the project.  We should have the toolkit ready in the early Fall.

Thanks for following our blog!  Some posts in the near future will include ideas about items we're considering to exhibit from our own collections.  Stay tuned!

We'll Be "Live" Soon!

In a few hours we will be "live" with this blog that describes "The Best From Pen and Press" project. What you see is our first mock-up of the blog, which may change over time as we add new participants and post updates and news. Today's planning meeting will give the final "OK" for the logo and this blog.

Here's a brief description of the project: In 2017 units of the University Libraries—in conjunction with other institutions around the state—are planning a summer-long exhibition to highlight best books and manuscripts held by institutions and collectors. The exhibition is titled: “The Best from Pen and Press: Global Treasures from Minnesota’s Book & Manuscript Collections” and will run from about Memorial Day to Labor Day, 2017.

The project team for the exhibition includes: Pat Coleman, Minnesota Historical Society; Rob Rulon-Miller, Rulon-Miller Books; Lois Hendrickson, Wangensteen Library, U of M Libraries; Tim Johnson, Special Collections & Rare Books, U of M Libraries; and Maggie Ragnow, James Ford Bell Library, U of M Libraries.

Our first public presence will be at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Library Association in October. We'll have a table in the MLA exhibition hall in St. Paul so look for us there! In the meantime, we'll be busy recruiting new participants to the project, working on developing our public relations and social media presence, and anything else that comes to mind.

We haven't set up an e-mail account for the project, but will probably do so shortly. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the project please contact us or leave a comment here. Thanks!
